Linsanity! Did you Catch the Bug?

Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about without needing more than this title to the blog…. Others of you?  Er….. not even close!  Not to worry…. You’re definitely not alone…

There’s a hot new basketball player in town, and he’s sweeping the nation and taking fashion hearts by storm.  His name is Jeremy Lin, and he’s sort of the sneak attack bomb of the New York Knicks.

Ever since leading NY on a winning streak this past month, he’s all the sports world can talk about, and apparently, shop about!  Stores can’t seem to keep Lin branded merchandise in stock.  From cute printed T-shirts to actual official jerseys (and even Jeremy Lin bottle cap necklaces?), anything marked with the golden #17 is flying off the shelves, aiding in the doubling of sales for NYK merch.

So I’ve got one question…. Did you catch the Lin Bug?

Oscars 2012! The Hairstyles on the Red Carpet!

Hollywood’s biggest night came and hit with a fashionable bang that left us drooling…. Over the gorgeous gowns, stunning couples, surprise wins, decadent jewelry, and of course, the hair!

Some of our absolute favorite hairstyle looks for the night were bold, dramatic, unexpected, and infinitely chic.  Thick, heavy bangs, oversized buns (and we’re not talking about JLo’s gorgeous bod) and retro glam ignited the carpet.  And honestly, who could forget Viola Davis’ au-natural and gorgeous short crop?!

If ever there was a woman who could pull off a bun at any given moment, it would be JLo.  She simply looks like a goddess with this elegant, simple, yet chic topknot.

Tina Fey was also not one to shy away from an oversized bun, and we love her for it.  Looking uncharacteristically regal and elegant, she stunned us with her slightly-below-the-crown enlarged crescent bun.

Natalie Portman went for the simple elegance of the old Hollywood retro look, with a soft side swept bang and gentle rolled curl on the ends.  We say, bravo!

The lovely Gweneth Paltrow opted out of the traditional updo, and instead went for a sleek low ponytail to offset her sleek, simple, yet wow-factor gown.  Classic!

How can we not adore the beautiful new Miss Marilyn herself, Michelle Williams.  In a pale blond pixie and peony lips, her look was one of our very favorites of the night.

Rounding out the top of our Hollywood glamour list was Penelope Cruz, who accented her soft pastel gown with equally soft side swept curls, pulled away from her face to showcase that amazing smile.

We are so excited to see Viola Davis take off her wigs (at her husband's encouragement) and rock her natural locks!  There are few things more beautiful than a woman proud to showcase her personal style with freedom and grace!  Bravo!

Lastly, we loved the look of Rooney Mara's blunt cut bangs!  So thick, dark, dramatic and chic!

Here are some of our favorite hairstyle looks for the night!  Who do you think wore it best?

2012 Oscars! Red Carpet Recap

The fashion that was spotted on the Oscars' red carpet is all everyone is talking about! If you missed out on the renowned award show over the weekend, we've got you covered! Here are some of the most amazing looks of the night that we can't stop ranting about!
George Clooney's stunning girlfriend Stacy Keibler rocked the red carpet in a gorgeously-draped, metallic gold Marchesa gown. We literally let out a scream of joy when seeing her alongside her beau. Aah! Hands down, hottest couple of the night.
Fab-u-lous! That's the first word that came to mind when seeing Jennifer Lopez in this sequined Zuhair Murad dress. Some hated it, but we loved it!
Milla Jovovich showed of her feminine side with a breathtaking white Elie Saab gown embellished with silver paillette details. The strong, single shoulder gave her some edge, but the flattering fit upgraded it all to elegance. Now that's glamour!
Michelle Williams add some color to the style scene in this adorable tangerine Louis Vuitton gown. We love the peplum-tiered skirt, and all of the intricate details. And with her super cute pixie cut, we think only she could pull this one off.
"The Help" star Octavia Spencer looked lovely in her sparkling sequin Tadashi Shoji gown. The first-time Oscar winner surely stood out from the crowd of the many lovely looks.
Gwyneth Paltrow looks flawless in her bright white Tom Ford gown. At first, we were a bit leery about the cape as it seems a bit superhero-ish, but we think it adds a unique touch that is rare among traditional Oscar fashion.
Cameron Diaz kept it simple and chic in this curve-hugging Gucci gown. She's truly glowing, and we love the elegance and simplicity of her look!

Which star do you think had the best red carpet style?

Prada at Milan Fashion Week: Who We’re Loving for Fall 2012

Fall is already starting to look quite colorful and bold! We know it’s a ways ahead, and most of us are still getting adjusted to shopping for Spring and Summer, but the fashion world waits for no one when it comes to showcasing the upcoming collections!

While touring (read: drooling) over all the fashion coverage from New York Fashion Week, and skipping internationally over to Milan Fashion Week, Prada caught our eye for their unexpected take on Fall Fashion.

Bold, all-over patterns (adore), high waists, rich colors, and large embellishments make this new collection stand out, and will undoubtedly shape the fashion forecast.  We also hear cropped-at-the-ankle pants are making their comeback….. what do you think?

MAC Vs Marilyn Monroe: The New Collection!

Yes… we’re drooling too!  Just the mere hint of Marilyn Monroe being the new muse of MAC has us frantically looking for our handbag to head out the door and start shopping!

But you’ll have to be a little more patient (I know… it’s a tough one).  MAC has recently announced that they are using the blond bombshell’s famous looks and personality as their newest inspiration for a new collection.

From her sultry cat eyes, to her red kisser, and always gorgeous nails, Miss Monroe will spark a new collection including eye shadows, nail polishes, lipsticks and eye liners.

The collection will range in price from $15-27… but won’t arrive in stores until (gasp) October!

Guess we’ll just have to watch “Gentleman Prefer Blondes” on loop until October finally rolls around!

Will you be wearing Miss Monroe’s MAC collection?

The Glee Wedding Dress: Reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn

Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele) marched down to the courthouse yesterday to marry her high school sweetheart Finn Hudson on last night’s episode of Glee, and all were talking about The Dress!

The tea-length dress and corresponding veil was a 1950’s inspired custom piece created by the Glee team alongside Patricia Nevil of the LA bridal boutique L’ezu.  It featured a soft hemline, creamy white color, flared out skirt and boat neckline.  Simple, elegant, and to the point.

And why wouldn’t it be?  The show’s costume assistant Mojdeh Daftary said their inspiration came from Audrey Hepburn’s wedding dress in “Funny Face.”  And while the similarities are obvious, we won’t go into a battle of “who wore it best” because we think both screen goddesses looked truly stunning!

What do you think of the Glee dress?

2012 Brit Awards: Best & Worst Dressed!

Yes, awards are obviously the highlight of award shows, but of course, us fashion lovers go gaga over what our favorite stars are rocking down the red carpet. At the 2012 Brit Awards, there were plenty of looks that we were swooning over, and quite a few that had us scratching our heads. So here they are in all of their fab and drab: our Brit Awards best and worst dressed list!

Best Dressed
Jessie J took the spot as our best dressed gal! She looks ridiculously stunning in this lace applique dress by Falguni and Shane Peacock. We love how she looks far more feminine than we're used to seeing her, and yet her edgy aesthetic still manages to shine through. Under normal circumstances, we'd rather not have a clear view of anyone's knickers. But in Jessie's case, this is the least of our worries because she looks flawless! You go girl!
While there was much buzz surrounding Millie Mackintosh showing up to the Brit Awards alongside UK rapper Professor Green, we were buzzing over her stellar Rachel Gilbert gown! There aren't many words for how perfect Millie's look is. It's perfect! That is all...
As fashion fanatics, we're often thrilled to see things that are over the top. But Kylie Minogue and Lana del Rey both look lovely in their simple yet flattering gowns. We love the dramatic peek-a-boo slit of Kylie's blue Yves Saint Laurent gown. It gives it the perfect touch of dramatic elegance. And Lana--although we think her hair could have been a bit more glamorous--looks gorge in ruby red Vivienne Westwood.

Worst Dressed
While we are huge Adele fans, we admit we were a bit disappointed in her red carpet look this go around. Considering the fact that the UK is where the stunning songbird hails from, we figured she'd turn up the style notch a bit. But disappointingly, Adele dawned the red carpet in yet another bland black gown. Don't get us wrong: she looks gorgeous--as always. But the black dress look is a bit overdone, especially since she wore  an identical dress to the Grammys just a few weeks ago. So Adele, we adore you--like we really, really do. But we'd love that much more to see how stunning you'd look in something outside the long, black, and matronly category.
Everything isn't for everyone, and this Alexander McQueen dress--which we are drooling over, by the way--is just not working for songstress Florence Welsch. Initially, we couldn't quite put our finger on what about this look threw us off, but we realized that the dress is nearly the same shade as Welsch's skin. Flo is actually one of the only pale-skinned starlets out there--aside from Kristen Stewart--that can work the red carpet without a spray tan. However, this look is screaming 18th century vampire. Because of this, we would've loved to see her in a black or jewel-toned ensemble rather than the flesh-tones.
We're not sure whose bright idea it was to let Rihanna leave for the Brit Awards wearing this Givenchy dress and leather gloves, but nonetheless, it is surely a failure for Rih-Rih. This gown is a major step down from the killer Giorgio Armani dress she was sporting at the Grammys. We're truly puzzled about this one, and frankly wonder what in the world she was thinking when she slipped into the sequined frock. All we can say is..."eh."
British "X-Factor" champs, Little Mix, took the cake as the award show's worst dressed. While the girl group's debut single  has skyrocketed to the top of the British music charts, we think they've fallen quite low on the style scale. The girls are known for their unique sound that matches their eclectic fashion sense, but they could have--and should have--kept it simple. This is a perfect case of less definitely being more.

What do you think about the looks that made the cut of our best & worst dressed list?

Look We Love: Spring Flirt

These days there are too many fashion do's and don'ts to follow. Fashion is suppose to be fun! Sometimes you have to break the rules. Afterall, if it works don't fix it!

We love this Spring outfit from the tortoise shell sunglasses to the chunky shoes. A blend of tortoise shell, snakeskin, and abstract prints can be dangerous, but here, the pale pink shirt balances out the mixture perfectly. Of the many colors we are looking forward to wearing this season, pale pink has most definitely made the list of must-have colors in our closet. The quarter sleeve, high-low top is loose and flowy, and works well with the fitted print shorts. To keep it cool and casual, the addition of chunky brown cork heels is brilliant. The ensemble is girly with a hint of chicnesss, thanks to awesome accessories adding the finishing touch.

First Look: Nicole Richie For QVC!

Nicole Richie's highly anticipated line for QVC is almost here! "The Nicole Richie Collection" is set to be released on QVC's "The Buzz on the Red Carpet -- Live from L.A" show on February 24th (mark your calendars!), yet we've gotten our hands on an exclusive preview that should hopefully sustain our excitement until then!
The collection from the stylish starlet is just what we expected to see. It is purely bohemian with plenty of flowing chiffon dresses, hipster-cool jackets, Richie's signature style mark of hobo bags, and plenty of vintage-inspired prints--all ranging from $75 to just over $250.
"I want to connect with the women watching by letting them know that we are similar in many ways," Richie said of her line. "I'm a mother of two and I work. We all want to feel relaxed on the inside but stylish on the outside. And that's what I'm trying to provide."
What do you think of the Nicole Richie collection?

How To Wear It: Sweet Sneakers

It's shoe heaven every day here at UrbanOG for we seriously help shoe addicts, including ourselves, to accept their addiction. While we carry all sorts of styles and colors, we did a double take seeing some sneakers joining our extremely large collection of shoes. I, personally, love sneakers and was inspired to share my thoughts on how to wear sneakers. There are just some days when you may not want to stress about falling on your face every time your ankle feels like it's going to roll unexpectedly. Wearing sneakers can get tricky. Although you want to be a bit casual, you don't exactly want to get too comfortable. Take our word for it, you can still be fashion forward in sneakers and here's how!

A printed t-shirt adds a touch of playfulness and youthfulness to the outfit. T-shirts have its way of creative expression through artwork which we absolutely love. Along with a t-shirt, try some sequin shorts which will allow your ensemble to remain a step above being too casual as opposed to wearing denim shorts. Since wearing sneakers can easily downplay an outfit, there is much room to go all out on accessories such as stacking up many bracelets on your wrist and even throwing on some round eye, hipster glasses. Lastly and most importantly, don't forget a blazer to complete your casual, dressy ensemble.

Look We Love: Long & Sheer

This Spring brings us bright and bold colors, a pop of neon, and pastel pretty colors. Aside from all the color craze, white is just as captivating this season. That's what we love about this look. We're suckers for long pieces that flow perfectly in the wind. There's an angelic and at the same time vintage hippie vibe created by this long, sheer jacket. We the love effects of the jacket and its ability to transform an outfit from simple to chic.

Mixing whites is risky, but here we see it done right without one white clashing with the other white piece. The outfit remains a lot more casual by pairing it with cut off denim shorts and a loose plain white tank top. Since the outfit is interesting enough, we love the minimalistic approach taken on jewelry. The layers of gold necklaces and bangles adds an effortless, subtle touch.

Look We Love: Breezy Basics

An awesome outfit is one that is super stylish and comfy. We adore this fun spring look that incorporates easy, breezy basics in a totally cool way! The lightweight knit sweater gives this outfit a unique touch of texture. Worn with popping pink high-waisted shorts, this ensemble is surely spring savvy. Adding simple accessories like an awesome beaded stone necklace and charming rings upgrades this outfit from simple to appealing. The vintage-style sunnies--which we love--just manage to add the perfect touch of hipster cool. This is just an example of the outfits you can try by mixing and matching your basics, reinventing them from season to season. How do you feel about this simply fun look?
