Were you one of the estimated 100 million people to watch
the Superbowl yesterday? Whether
for the game, the commercials, or the company, the Superbowl packed many visual
punches, and Madonna was one of them.
With a stage that spanned nearly half of the entire field,
surrounded in digital image screens, bleacher tiers on back of the stage, trap
doors galore and massive risers, Madonna delivered a solid performance on what
is called the most demanding audience ever given the volume of watchers.
And the fashion world was smiling too! Madonna opened the show with “Vogue,”
perhaps one of her most iconic songs, and dozens of replicas of Vogue magazine
illuminated the field during the song.
She was draped in Givenchy Couture and drizzled in Bulgari jewels,
covering an elaborate head piece and coordinating wide belt.
M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj made quick guest appearances during
the closing number “Give Me All Your Luvin” wearing Erickson Beamon headpieces,
LMFAO also glitzed in sparkly versions of their signature wild animal print
neon style, and Cee Lo Green was like a sparkling preacher in his all black
sequin robe.
While Madonna may have toned down her performance given the
family friendly audience requirements, she still put on quite a show. Yes there was a bit of a mish-mash of
styles, from Egyptian to gladiator, and from Bollywood to church choir, but
what else would you really want from a 12 minute performance that spans such a
wide array of her classic songs?
What did you think about the performance?
