DIY Weave Sweatshirt / Sweater Cutout Design

How about a little DIY fun for the weekend?!  Video tutorial of this and other DIY designs at the end!

I created this DIY sweater / sweatshirt weave back design in about 10 minutes.  All it takes are some scissors, a little bit of sewing (super easy) and an old sweater or sweatshirt that you want to reconstruct. I thought this would be perfect for the springtime, so that you don't have to toss your warm sweaters in the back of the closet for the next 6 months.

The steps are pretty simple!  First off, cut out the entire back of your sweater!

Then, taking the back that you cutout, trim off the bottom portion if it has some type of stitching or design that is different from the rest of the back.

Using a tape measure, measure down the side of the back to create the width of your strips.  I went with 6 strips, you can do more or less.  Mine are 2.5" in width.  After measuring, I took my scissors to snip off every 2.5" inches to mark my place.

Then, you guessed it folks!  Cut off your strips.

Lay out your strips in the pattern formation that you want to create to have an idea of how it will look when finished.  I went for a crossed back, and will weave the strips into one another.

Then, placing right sides together, you want to sew your first strip to the edge of the neckline that has been cut off.  You can hand sew in a matter of minutes, or use a machine.

I went ahead and sewed each strip of the first set of 3 to the back, in diagonal patterns.  The top neck strip crosses to just under the arm of the opposite side, and the other 2 are parallel to that, with the last one hitting just under the starting arm, and connecting to the bottom of the sweater.

Then, I sewed the tops of the next set of 3 strips on the opposite side, in their correct positions.  Before sewing the bottoms, take each strip, and weave it through the first set, under-over-under like you see below.

Sew the bottoms of the last 3 woven strips and voila!  You're done!  Wear your repurposed sweater or sweatshirt with pride!

Here is a video of this tutorial, and 3 other DIY sweater cutting ideas for you to enjoy!  The other tutorials don't require any sewing!

Tag me in photos of your creations so I can see and thumbs up!

DIY Colorful Headphones!

Who's ready for a fun DIY project?! (Video Tutorial at the end)

So I saw some super cute colorful headphones in a store the other day, and thought to myself, "that would be so cute to DIY!"  And lucky for us all, not only are they super cute, but they're easy and cheap to make!

All you're gonna need is a pair of headphones you already have, some colorful thread floss (I got mine at Michael's for less than a dollar per color, and some glue (I found a liquid Elmer's glue stick at the 99 Cent store).

I found two simple methods to wrap your thread around your headphones:  one involves actually spiraling the thread around the cable, the other involves rotating the cable around the thread. Both are simple methods and I'll show you each.

Method one: start off by placing some glue at the base of your headphone cable near where the actual ear bud is.  Taking the end of your thread pressing firmly onto the gloom section.

Then you want to run a short strip of glue down the cable about an inch long, and begin wrapping the thread around the cable.  You're going to continue this process down the length of the cable, making sure to apply your strips of glue in short sections, so that the glue doesn't have a chance to dry before you've been able to wrap your thread around the cable.

For the second method, which may wind up being a little easier for you depending on your preference, you're going to do the same thing with your glue, placing short segments of glue on the cable, and you're actually going to hold your thread, and wind the cable up the thread. Basically what you're doing, is you're wrapping the cable onto the thread, versus spiraling the thread around the cable.

I found this pretty easy to do by holding each end of the cable in my hands, and holding the end of the thread with my first and second finger of my right hand, while rotating the cable with my other fingers.

For either method that you choose, if you want to switch out the colors in segments, simply trim off the thread that you were wrapping, and start by gluing down a new color. Just make sure that the ends are firmly glued. It's best if you're using a glue that dries clear that way you can cover over the ends of your thread without worrying about the glue showing through.

And you should wind up with something looking like this!  One of the great added benefits of wrapping thread over my headphone cables, is that the stiffness of the thread actually keeps my headphones from tangling. Can we say added bonus?!

And there you have it! Pretty simple to do huh? It's a lot of fun, and you can personalize it to make it all your own simply by choosing the colors that you love. This also makes a really cute and fun gift! If you want a video tutorial to see how to create this, you're in luck! I've posted my video tutorial below.

Last Minute DIY Valentine's Candy Bouquets for Him and Her!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  Whether you're actually celebrating today with a date, friends, family, or just yourself, it's a great day for a smile and to tell someone you love them!

Now, let's get to why you're really here!  If you're anything like me, you may have left some (or all!) of your Valentine's Day gift planning up to the last minute!  Maybe you don't know what to give your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/baby-mamma/boo thang and are currently fretting and ready to make a mad dash to the grocery store to get some predictable roses?!

Fear not!  I've got a couple unique, and best of all, yummy DIY gift bouquets that you can create in a matter of minutes!  There's one for him, and one for her!  And with a quick hop down to the 99Cent Store or your local market, these will only cost you about $5 - $8 each!  Yassss!

LET'S DO THIS!  (Additional Instructional Video at the end)

For Him:

I found this adorbs mustache tumbler at the 99Cent Store (they also have ones with lips if doing this for her).  Or just grab a clear vase or mason jar.

Next comes the fun part:  fill it with his/her favorite candy!

Don't forget the candy hearts!  Got all my candies from the dollar store :)

You can top it off with some glitter hearts (also from the dollar store).  Or maybe a little love note rolled up from you?

And voila!  How easy was that?  If you want to give it a pro look, wrap it up in some cellophane for protection and something for them to unwrap!  Again, one roll of cellophane, 99 cents at you know where!

============================================

And for her (or any flower loving dude in your life)!

I wanted to create a unique flower bouquet using something other than flowers!  I was walking up and down the 99Cent Store isles when I came across these jumbo gift bows in all sorts of colors, and thought, why not?!

For starters, I just needed to create the stem.  So I found a pack of wood kebob skewers and some green streamer ribbon (pack of 2 for 99cents) and went to work.  Put some glue on the end of the green streamer and press it firmly on the end of the stick.

Then simply wrap the ribbon all the way down the stick, putting a little dab of glue in the center to secure.

Next comes the cool part.  The giant bows already have a sticky backing just waiting to be used!  Simply peel off the backing, press the stick on the adhesive, and press closed the other half of the sticky.

If you want to add some leaves to the bouquet, and just ties some of that curling ribbon around the base of the stick underneath the adhesive, and curl with scissors.

Next, I took a mason jar and filled it with her/his favorite candy.

Lastly, fill the jar with the flowers that you created, using as many as you want to, and boom! You have one super cute, creative, and yummy flower bouquet.

So which yummy bouquet are you most excited about creating?  And remember, if you're celebrating Valentine's Day by yourself, there ain't nothing wrong with making one of these for yourself!
