How to Dress Vegan

Dressing vegan.  Ever been curious about it?  Whether you're actually vegan, or just looking for affordable alternatives to buying the real thing, dressing vegan, i.e. cruelty-free, doesn't have to be a chore.  And best of all, it doesn't have to mean you look like a cheap, pleathery, pieced together dresser.

So what exactly should you be looking for when shopping vegan?  Look for any and all materials that obviously are not from animal byproducts like denim, linen, rayon, spandex, and anything with the word faux next to it like faux leather, or faux fur.  Cotton is also a safe bet that spans a massive variety of options these days.

Now that you know what to look for, know what to avoid.  This list includes items like wool, fur, silk, suede, alligator, crocodile, fleece, cashmere and the like.  Generally, when items are made with these animal materials, they proudly say so on the tag, so take a glance if you're not sure.  The price is usually also much higher for non-vegan items than it is for its faux counterparts.

And fear not my friends!  Wearing vegan doesn't have to be a laborious process, nor do you have to look fashionably under par!  There are so many designers, stores, and collections now that feature quality made faux animal pieces, that you're pretty much covered from head to toe with vegan options, as you please.  So say hello to your new faux leather skirts, joggers, and shoes!  They just might be your new besties... well, at least one or two if you're not ready for the entire plunge!

What do you think?  Will you try shopping vegan?

Spring Fashion Trend: Minimalism How To

One of my favorite spring fashion trends this year, and really any year, is chic minimalism.  It conveys a message of sophistication, simplicity, elegance, and a level of polish that is actually quite easy to achieve.  Video of this look in action at the end!

This is one of those looks where less truly is more, and you don't have to worry about blending color palates, as this look generally consists of white, black, and neutral tones.  So today we look at my new favorite head-to-toe statement:  wearing all white.

When working this look, think clean and simple.  I chose this strapless body suit not only because it is all white top to bottom, which automatically makes you look taller and thinner, but for its prime fit silhouette.  When you're wearing all white, my advice is to shoot for looser fit layers, as white tends to highlight bulges if worn to skin tight!  Yikes!

Avoid the temptation to add a pop of color to this look.  That would draw all the attention, and negate the very essence of minimalism.

Instead, opt for white accessories with metallic details in gold or silver, and the same goes for your shoes.  And for the ultimate chic-ness?  Make those shoes heels rather than flats!

Keep your makeup and hair sleek and simple, and you've built a stunning look in no time at all!  Love that!

Here's my video with this look in action, as well as several other outfit ideas and tips:

New Year's Eve Outfit Ideas

(photo Chictopia user: LAPETITEBLONDE)

Ordinarily, right around this day in the year I'd be saying something like, "Oh my!  I can't believe this year is over and it's already going to be a whole new year!!!"  And then I'd take a retrospective of what I've done the past year, wonder how the time went by so fast, and vow to do even more in the coming year.

This year is different.  Very different.  Instead of looking in the past and wondering where the time went, I've never looked more into the future and been more welcoming of the new year!  This past year had it's challenges and blessings, but I am so ready for 2014, which I know will be beyond my wildest dreams amazing!  And hopefully, you feel that way too.

That brings me to the next important point... what to wear!  Ushering in a new year might be no biggie for some, and all biggie for others.... but one thing is sure, adding some glitz, glam, and bling to your NYE outfit never hurt anyone!

You can opt for the all-over sparkle of a mini dress, go for something daring and backless for an unexpected switch-up, or mix your sparkle with something equally dramatic like this larger-than-life red whispy maxi skirt.

And if you're just not that into the whole glitter/sequin look, I recommend the never fail shift dress.  You'll see a lot of black dresses, and silver, so how about something fire engine red to really stand out and make your presence, and future, known!

Fall Street Style: Full Skirt

(photo: chictopia - KTR)

Can you believe that the first day of Fall is this Sunday?!!  I mean, seriously, did we even have Summer?  It seems to breeze by faster and faster every year, and while I love the summertime, I'm also madly in love with Fall fashion!

So to get you started with some fresh new looks, how about taking on an old classic that's getting a revived pep:  the full skirt!  I love this look for an abundance of reasons, from its ultra feminine silhouette, to its very flirty and fun nature.  And perhaps best of all, the full skirt flatters pretty much every body type you can think of!

(photo: chictopia - KTR)

You want to aim for a full skirt that is cinched in at the waistline, or at least top the skirt off with a belt right at your waist so that you don't lose your curves under this cut.  I also recommend tucking in your blouse to further define an hourglass shape, though topping with a cardigan or sweater and knotting it at your waist works wonders as well.

Try the skirt in bold hues to add some boost of color to your fall wardrobe (that typically goes more towards blacks, grays, and browns).  And for the most updated spin on this twirling wonder, try a full skirt with a hi-low hemline cut to make the outfit more 2013 friendly, and less 1950's poodle.

For an elegant touch, add heels, either pumps or peep-toes.  Wearing flats works fabulously as well if you want a more casual and playful look!

So what do you think of the full skirt?  Will you give it a try?

Summer Nights Outfit Idea

Summer is officially here, and we couldn't be happier... really.... not one tincey wincey little bit!  Why? Because we loooooove summer!

And what better way to kick off the heat than to find new ways to sport our summer dresses for the evening!  Take this little pastel pink number for example... adorable right?  We love the lace décolletage  details and the uber flirty pleats and layers in the skirt... it's a perfect Spring/Summer day dress...

But what if you want to transition it for that hot summer date at night?  Simple.  Try adding some dark, semi-sheer tights underneath for instant va-va-voom.  To ground the tights, opt for dark or black heels to really elongate the look of your legs.  We love the look of the lucite heel which adds an unexpected element without taking too much attention away from how smoldering hot you look in the dress.

To dress it up even further, add a black blazer.  Blazers have a way of making just about any dress cocktail hour friendly... sometimes even work friendly.

And that's it!  Grab some earrings and a chic ring, and you and your little summer dress are ready to raise temperatures on the town.

Peep some of our favorite lucite heels here.
