Hot Trends for 2012

Happy New Year everyone!  Whether your getting busy with new resolutions, or still recovering from the long weekend, slightly in denial that a new year has even arrived (where did the past 6 months go?!), one thing is for sure, fashion is on the move!

We all know fashion can be a bit impatient for the season changes, and we’ve got a list of what looks like will be some of the hottest trends to come out in 2012.

Pleats!  Pleats!  Pleats!  Did we mention in an earlier post that retro would be big?  We’ll also see the return of sheer skirts (wow), green leather, bold tights, pastels and the return of Euro conservative, and orange galore!!!

What trends are you excited most about?

CFDA Awards 2011

There may be no other event which draws a more well-dressed crowd than the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. The looks were sophisticated for the most part. Of course, the industry’s biggest fashion designers were all there at the 2011 CFDA including Marc Jacobs, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Kanye West and Diane von Furstenberg just to name a few.
If you guys missed the show last night, let’s catch up with the highlights of the night. Michael Bastian received the Menswear Designer of the Year award from Gerard Butler, and Hal Rubenstein received the Eleanor Lambert award from Jessica Alba (who had on a lovely DvF dress).
Kanye West also made an appearance on the stage, announcing his love for Phoebe Philo. “I don’t get up on stage unless I really believe in something,” he stated. Of course, let’s not forget our favorite fashionista, Lady Gaga who also made her appearance in her outfit last night which was anything but dull. She stepped out as the CFDA Fashion Icon of the Year in a studded thong and 24-inch backless heels- yikes! Props to her for making it to the stage. Check out the full list of winners below and tell us what you think of the winners, appearances and outfits that made it out at this star-studded affair.

Elizabeth Olsen at Cannes Film Festival 2011

To be honest, I didn’t even know that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had a 22-year old sister and I’ve always been a fan of the twins too from their Full House days to their more recent expeditions of creating a fashion empire to call their own. Her name is Elizabeth Olsen and regardless of the fact that yes, she has a set of very famous and stylish twins as her older sisters, she shouldn’t be overlooked. The 22-year old actress received quite a bit of attention from the media this past weekend at the Cannes Film Festival for her movie premiere of “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and guess what she was wearing on the red carpet? None other than designs by her sisters’ fashion collection, The Row of course—aww, sisterly love!
She looked gorgeous in a white beaded dress for a daytime appearance then followed it up with a sexy black ensemble with a thigh high slit-also from the Row. Elizabeth has received strong reviews for her role and is gearing up to star in Naomi Foner’s “Very Good Girls” with “New Moon” actress Dakota Fanning, Peter Sarsgaard, Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek. It seems that talent and a good sense of style runs in the family; check out the photos below of her premiere night.

Wide-Legged Trouser

As much as we all still love our skinny jeans, it’s ok to admit that we are looking for the next big thing. Sorry skinny jeans. The pants influence the silhouette more than any other piece of clothing so it’s kind of a big deal when we want to make a transition. It seems that there is an undercurrent of experimentation among the eager and fashion forward, transitioning from skinny jeans to trousers. The new silhouette seems to be going back to the wide legged pants, harem pants and even bell bottoms. More specifically, the trend that seems to be inevitably marking its territory is pleats. So next time you’re walking around the mall with your girlfriends, be courageous and pick up a pair of cute harem pants, it’ll open up endless options for new outfit looks to your wardrobe and you’ll be among the trendiest.
