Summertime Shine: How To Wear Neon

A bold yet beautiful hue has hit the 2013 streets. This bright trend known as neon has become a key ingredient for summertime. Neon was first discovered in 1898 by British chemists Sir William Ramsay and Morris W. Travers. Since then, it has transitioned from street signs to today’s fashion. If worn properly, you can totally transform yourself from plain Jane to sleek and chic in a matter of minutes. Here are some summer must-have essentials to vamp up your style profile:

With the right patterns and prints, you can truly incorporate neon without looking tacky. Remember to neutralize and contrast in the right manner to avoid knocking someone’s lights out. What neon color will you dare to wear?

Look We Love: White, Pastel and Neon!

If you didn't have time to adjust to the blazing speed of the neon trend this summer, here's a chic and simple yet very effective way to experiment with the look without spending major dollars on a whole new wardrobe.

Ingredients:  1 cup solid tailored basic on top, 2 cups bold pastels on bottom, and a dash of neon pop accessories.  Bake at 400 degrees and voila!  You have one killer look to close out the summer as we prep for fall.

This look showcases a brilliant mix of both color blocking and pop of color techniques.  The white on white with the top and blazer are classic summer staples that will always be on trend, while the pastel peach jeans give that feminine, flirty splash to the outfit.

And then the jewelry.  By adding a neon element like the necklace and bracelet above, you're saying "hey, I'm a girl who knows how to have fun, and keep it classic all at the same time!"  Not a statement to take lightly.

Finish the look with a neutral bag and shoes, and your recipe is complete!

Now dig in :)

Look We Love: Bold Color Blocking & Nautical Stripes

We're inching closer and closer to Summer which has us in visual overdrive for this season's big fashion player:  neon!  For this Lookbook, I wanted to feature a mix of bold neon color blocking with nautical stripes to create an unexpected fresh take on a classic look.

I started the look off with a gorgeous reverse nautical striped top.  I loved this top for it's unexpected take on the nautical look by placing the emphasis on the dark stripes rather than the light ones, and it features a 3/4 sleeve.  Since it's such a bold pattern, I wore a long necklace to focus the eye, in the feathery teal blue hue that coordinates with the bag.

Here's where the fun comes in.  Instead of going with a classic pairing like white pants or jeans, I added a dramatic pop of color with this neon pink banded skirt.  The color is just stunning in person, and the dark striped top helps keep it grounded.  I added a neon yellow belt to give a bit more pop.  Keep it skinny to avoid overwhelming the eye with too much color.

I wanted to further the look of the color blocking by adding a third color to the mix, so I incorporated a bright teal fold-over handbag.  This is a solid color with accents nicely off the skirt and patterned top, and has a beautiful gold chain strap with acts like an added jewelry accessory when draped over the shoulder or cross-body.  I also added a statement ring and bracelet.  Bold color, bold accessories.

And finally, the look was made complete by pairing some color blocked wedges.  I just love these!  And they are unbelievably comfortable!  The pink and yellow helps balance the skirt and belt, while the black top keeps the look grounded and chic.

Look We Love: Pop of Color!

Who says you can't look fabulous while on the job?  With Spring in full bloom, and Summer on the near horizon, we are loving the bold color trend.  Especially neon colors!

This look features a more sophisticated and classic way to rock bold colors, as a pop of color to a neutral palette.  Since not everyone likes to wear head to toe color, I styled a look that adds just a touch of color in one bold piece.

I wanted to create a black base to make the neon yellow skirt really pop, so I chose this lovely and delicate black semi-sheer blouse with neck bow detail.  For the sake of the lookbook, I punched it up with a bold yellow bra, but for a more conservative look, I would wear a black camisole under the shirt to create an opaque look.

I also added a feathered bird necklace to bring some color up closer to the face so the skirt doesn't steal all of the attention!

Black leggings complete the black palette, and next comes the neon yellow skirt.  What a pop!  I added a gold jeweled cuff to ground the yellow hues of the skirt a bit, and an ethnic designed beaded belt around the waist which gives a nice interesting element of color and pattern from the rear view!

And finally, some chunky lace up black booties.  These are perfect as they continue the black line of the leggings which helps make your legs look miles long, and the chunkiness of the heels helps to balance out the boldness of this entire look.

And there's the look!  What do you think?  Give you ideas of working with pops of color?

Looks We Love: Bold Colors Lookbook!

Spring is now in full swing, and those of us who gush over new fashion trends, prepare to leap for joy (sorry, couldn't resist a cheesy pun) because your life just got a whole lot more colorful!

There are so many different ways to rock bold colors, whether it's a pop of color with one key piece (more on that in a future blog) or rocking head to toe color, choosing to pair vibrant hues brings attention getting style in a world of black, white and beige.

I started this luscious look off by taking a bold mint skinny jean (love) and pairing it with a semi sheer mint button down top.  The top is actually sleeveless which I love as it keeps the look cooler for Spring and Summer seasons.  I then added a bold punch of color with a solid tangerine (can we say color of the year) blazer.  I especially love the fold up cuffs as they have a pinstripe detail that keeps the look cool and fresh.

Next come the accessories!  Layer a bunch of bangles on top of each other to make this a fashion forward look.  The nice thing about these bangles is they are actually only 2 items.  The bottom layer comes with a ton of bangles, so you're not having to grab several items to get this look.

Next I wanted to add another color element, so I grabbed a solid gold colored bag.  I absolutely love the delicate chain strap to this bag, and if worn as a cross body bag, the chain instantly creates the look of a long necklace to the outfit.

These gorgeous sandals complimented the entire look so perfectly!  I went with a neutral beige as I didn't want the outfit to feel on color overload.  Rolled the jeans up to showcase the sexy ankle strap and good to go!

And last but not least, I added this adorable gold wings necklace to really frame the face!
