The Royal Wedding- there has been a lot of media coverage and talk about this long anticipated event. Are you in the know about what happened this early morning at 4 A.M.? For those of us who aren't early birds, I'm here to fill you in. This is not only the wedding of the century but even the Scottish Government has designated this day as a bank holiday. Let’s break it down and digest this wedding of international significance.
Facts:
- The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton will take place today at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Prince Williams official title could become Duke of Cambridge, Duke of Sussex or Duke of Clarence.
- The wedding will involve senior members of the royal family and according to the Daily Telegraph, Prince William is expected to be offered a dukedom at his marriage, which would make his wife a duchess.
- There have been 14 royal weddings at Westminster Abbey since 1100, but there were none between 1382 and 1919. This year’s royal wedding will be the first at Westminster Abbey since Juy 23,1986 when Prince Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, married Miss Sarah Ferguson.
- The Royal Family and the Middletons will pay for the wedding but the taxpayer will meet the cost of extra security of transport.
- The couple, both 28, got engaged while on holiday in Kenya in October 2010.
- Westminster Abbey has hosted weddings of the Queen and Queen Mother and was also the venue for Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
- William and Kate wanted to marry on a Friday in spring and April 29 was chosen because it fell after Easter and Lent and before a busy political programme in May and June (BBC)
- Prince William proposed to Kate with his mother Diana’s diamond and sapphire engagement ring.
- Prince William and Kate Middleton have created a charitable gift fund to help celebrate their wedding. The fund will focus on assisting charities which support five causes chosen by the couple. Go to http://www.royalweddingcharityfund.org/ to learn more.
Of course, the entire wedding will be covered from start to finish and all eyes will be on the beautiful bride and groom so get your buddies together, put on your tiaras and pop open the champagne to join the celebration!

Sheer fabric and layers have become one of the biggest buzz topics this season as we see plenty of people wearing them on the streets and runways courtesy of Elie Tahari, Badgley Mischka, Rag & Bone and Thakoon just to name a few. Sheer fabric doesn’t necessarily mean tight, see-through tops that seem trashy- in fact, we’ve seen them on the fashion runways used in a variety of ways from sheer layers, simple pieces and the look of delicate, feminine draping. It gives us another concept to play with, another tool to add to our tool bag of accessorizing in order to put together our look of the day.
Trust, ladies- offering a peek-a-boo of your lingerie can be tasteful if done right. A lacy, soft-cup bra would look fabulous under a sheer silk blouse but if revealing your undergarments to the world isn’t your cup of tea, you can always slip into a lingerie-esque camisole to wear under something sheer. The key is to make those layers visible and to give a slight taste without revealing everything.

Still lounging around in the dark, cold tones of the winter season? The weather is slowly transitioning to a warmer, brighter temperature and so should our wardrobes. Rather than simply matching a bright top with a black skirt, make your look pop and take it a few steps further by challenging yourself to the art of color blocking. Loud and proud color combinations that’d normally seem to clash such as orange, royal blue and fuschia can make for a dynamic, confident look this season and has inspired designers to apply this look on everything from shoes to hand bags. The best part about it all is that there are no rules-be as flamboyant as desired and stop traffic while you’re at it.
Although there are no set rules, it doesn’t hurt to keep these pointers in mind while experimenting: Avoid prints to prevent cluttering the sharp lines between blocks of color and stick to solids and keep accessories and shoes light and bright.

While crop tops were last seen as a trend around 2009, the trend is back in a more sophisticated, less Britney Spears like look. Although we must admit, leaving the house baring that much skin will probably seem like a bad idea for most of us, the crop top is trying to prove itself trend worthy as we see on the fashion runways on the Spring 2011 runways courtesy of Yves Saint Laurent, Rodarte, Rag & Bone just to name a few. Crop tops of the new season varied in all shapes and sizes from teeny tiny tops to a two-piece ensemble broken up by a hint of skin. It can be worn over a tank dress or be paired with high-waisted pants, shorts or skirts, basically you shouldn’t be scared to play around with it. Take a look and maybe, just maybe you’ll reconsider the infamous crop top.

Who would have thought that you can now be sued for utilizing Mother Nature’s creations? Tony Duquette, an interior designer in the 1950’s of Tony Duquette Inc. is suing J. Crew over the “Duquette Leopard Print Sweater” because it “infringes on the company’s trademarks and patterns”. The design firm is alleging that the print is connected with J. Crew, its advertisements, and J. Crew’s sweaters and filed a claim on April 19, 2011. Hutton Wilkinson, President and Creative Director of Tony Duquette, Inc. stated, “We filed this claim to ensure our trademarks are used appropriately and only with permission… J. Crew knowingly and willfully used the Duquette trademark without permission or license in connection with leopard print”, according to WWD.
This leaves me thinking, perhaps J. Crew could’ve chosen a better name for the sweater but as far as serving justice goes, it seems that Tony Duquette Inc. was making an homage to Duquette than trying to make money on his name. We’ll just have to wait and see what the judge and jury say when this case goes to court.

This coming season, the newest item we should all have in our closets is the romper, jumper or onesie as some may call it. This cute little one-piece can make any body type look amazing so no need to fear, take advantage of the coming warm season and mix up your selection of outfits in the morning. Here are a couple tidbits on wearing the romper if you feel you’re up for the challenge.
1. Cinch the waist- Romper and jumpers that fit the entire body can end up losing definition to the silhouette at the waist if the waistline isn’t cinched. Therefore, if this applies to your outfit, make sure you grab a belt to show your beautiful figure.
2. Full coverage- Yes, they’re not pants but you do have to take precaution when running around in these babies. Basically, make sure your cute little derriere is covered.
3. Work the legs- Rompers will be your new best friend especially since they have a way of making your legs look like they go on for miles. Keeping this in mind, avoid sandals with thick ankle straps.
Play it up and see what works for you, there are plenty of styles to choose from and you’ll definitely find one that fits your look. You can shop for yours today at Urbanog.com. Enjoy!

As much as we all still love our skinny jeans, it’s ok to admit that we are looking for the next big thing. Sorry skinny jeans. The pants influence the silhouette more than any other piece of clothing so it’s kind of a big deal when we want to make a transition. It seems that there is an undercurrent of experimentation among the eager and fashion forward, transitioning from skinny jeans to trousers. So next time you’re walking around the mall with your girlfriends, be courageous and pick up a pair of cute harem pants, it’ll open up endless options for new outfit looks to your wardrobe and you’ll be among the trendiest.

Spring is here and that means adding to your selection of hairstyles and looks for the new season. Somewhere between laid-back and ladylike, the high bun is a look that is guaranteed to hit hard this coming season. This style works on long or short hair and is also ideal for tucking away unruly hair. Take a peek at the editors and busy fashionistas walking the streets of NY and you’ll be sure to spot out a handful of them in towering platform heels and high buns sitting atop their heads. The high bun seems to be taking place of the classic ponytail - fast. Why? There’s a certain elevation to the style. A style that says, “I work hard and can look good doing it.” Add the high bun to your list of hairstyles and rock it any day, anywhere for a guaranteed classy and effortless look.

What do you think of Vanessa Hudgens Coachella style? I don’t know how she did it but she seams to incorporate all the latest 2011 spring/summer trends into one complete outfit. Let’s break down her style and take notes from this great fashionista. Her two-piece bohemian look was created with a mixed-print trend; a style that is a little tricky to pull off, but amazing when achieved! Her top alone had three great trends going for it; boldly-bright, tribal design and cropped. Mixing her tribal top with retro-chic floral prints and also channeling the ‘70s with her floppy brimmed hat and wide leg pants. She accessorized her look with necklaces and rings, only leaving a few finger bare. Vanessa completed her Coachella style with a cross-body purse with fringe, fringe and more fringes! Definitely a very hot trend!
Are you tired of being a square with fashion, but not ready to do a 360’ with your style? It’s okay, we understand filing off the corners and rolling into a different style might be a little dramatic for your lifestyle and personality. So here is a fun trend to update your current look. Simply substitution your settle color-tones apparels for beautiful bright blocks of intense colors. Pairing coral pants with a green top, yellow belt and a red hand bag will immediately excite your look. These items are probably something you already have in your wardrobe, all you have to do now is stack-up your blocks accordingly to your preference and create that bolder, brighter-square!
With sunnier days ahead, the bright sunlight may be discomforting on your eyes. Sunglasses will help with this problem and some may protect your eyes from the sun harmful UV rays. Not only are the great functional items, they are great accessory pieces to complete your style. Sunglasses styles have evolved from small round frames to oversized shield and now to bold artistic frames. With bold celebrities as fashion icons like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, it was inevitable that our style would also evolve to a more dramatic style. One style that will never go out of style will have to be the wayfarers, so you have to make that a must have. There are also many other great designs, from cat eyes frame, bold colors to transitional lenses, your look will be a daily evolution.
By now, I’m sure you’re not taking a second look at your coats and they are probably pushed behind all your spring and summer apparels. You don’t have to cut this style out so soon. Keep in mind, April showers can come any time but with warmer temperature, it will allow you to keep those spring legs exposed and use your trench coat as a dress. To finish your look, try adding an oversized belt to cinch in the look. It would be ashamed to retire your trench so early in the season. Don’t have one?
