Naomi Campbell Sues Cadbury
Considering her track record, it’s surprising that the advertising and marketing executives over at Cadbury even risked putting Naomi Campbell’s name on their ad. The supermodel is suing over a new ad for the candy company’s “Bliss” chocolate bar which in big bold letters includes, “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town.” According to Independent UK, Campbell says, “I am shocked. It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humour in this. It is insulting and hurtful.”
Naomi’s mother had a thing or two to say as well about this issue. “I’m deeply upset by this racist advert. Do these people think they can insult black people and we just take it? This is the 21st century, not the 1950s. Shame on Cadbury.” A spokesperson for Cadbury released a statement insisting that the ad was meant as a “light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss,” and also mentioned that Kraft Foods, the company that owns Cadbury has removed the ad and it is no longer in circulation. Take a look at the ad for yourself and tell us what you think.
